Yes, Even Your Business Will Benefit From Sending Emails
I received a really good question yesterday from one of our readers, Andre. He wanted to know "How can writing winning emails help me as a loan officer? How could I target the right kind of people?"
That is a great question because there are many ways that you can and should use emails. I will just plant a few seeds here.
I always talk about the need to keep in touch with your clients on a regular basis. It really does not matter what industry or field you are in. You want to keep in touch using as many different techniques as possible and a monthly email, for instance, should be one of those methods. You want to always remind your clients and potential clients that you are there to serve their needs and the needs of people they know. They might not be ready right now, but when they are or when someone they know is ready, you want to be the first one they think of. You definitely do not want to lose them to your competitor, which would be a double whammy against you!!
You will also have many other opportunities to send emails. Here are just a few other ideas:
- Whenever you meet someone who could be a client. Send follow-up emails to remind them what you talked about, who you are and what you can do for them. Let them know you are willing to add them to your monthly newsletter.
- Attend trade groups and related organization meetings in your area. You can usually send an email to their membership list (or they will send it for you).
- Do an informative presentation at one of the meetings. Offer them a bonus and ask them to give you their business card, so you can send the bonus. Then ask if they want to be added to your newsletter, to write "Newsletter" on the back. Only add them if they agree to it.
- Do a co-promotion with the trade groups and related organizations. You can each send an email to the others lists.
- You will want to use emails as follow-ups to any internet marketing campaign you run.
- There are companies on the internet which will send out an email on your behalf to very targeted groups. Make sure they are legitimate and reputable.
- Please, send me your ideas of how you use emails and how you target the right kind of people. I will share these ideas in a future newsletter.
Whatever you send you want to make it informative and interesting. Informative, so they view you as the expert and someone who can help them when they or someone they know is ready, and interesting so they look forward to reading what you send them and do not just push it aside when it arrives. As long as you keep the business content of your email targeted to your area of expertise or niche, you will attract the type of clients you want.
Here are a few ideas for your newsletter: Send them information on different loan options, let them know how the market is doing in your area, any special programs you are aware of, where appropriate, let them know what services you offer and what makes you unique. Be friendly and personal. Talk about some community events. You can even provide them a weekly or monthly tip about anything - e.g., where to find the cheapest gas or the benefits of regularly checking their credit report and the difference between a free credit report check and actually knowing their credit score.
Remember, emails are not your only source of contact, but it is one very inexpensive and valuable method.
I hope this helps. I know this is very brief answer to a much more detailed and involved question. We will continue to address this in future newsletters. You can also view other related articles and previous newsletters on our website.
